Each year in the U.S. there are an estimated 15,780 children between the ages of birth and 19 years of age who are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. Globally there are more than 250,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year. Every 3 minutes, somewhere in the world a family hears the devastating words that their child has been diagnosed with cancer. While survival rates for many types of childhood cancer have improved, for too many children, cancer will shorten their lives too soon. Cancer remains the most common cause of death by disease for children in America. (American Childhood Cancer Organization Data )

Great advances have been made over the past fifty years to find cures for pediatric cancers. In fact, today over 80% of all children diagnosed with cancer survive longer than five years. The key to this success is early detection. If cancer is found before it has metastasizes or spread, the survival rates are great. However, if the cancer has started to spread, the statistics are abysmal. For instance, only 30% of Ewing’s Sarcoma patients survive once the cancer has started to spread.

Despite these statistics, less than 4% of all federal funding for cancer research is dedicated toward pediatric cancers (NIH Statistics). This funding is spread over all of the various types of pediatric cancer and funding for certain rare cancers receive relatively little funding at all. Our goal is to change the number.

My Mission is Remission is dedicated to funding research and individuals who focus on using computational methods to find the sources and cures for Ewing’s Sarcoma and other pediatric cancers. My Mission is Remission offers financial grants and scholarships to researchers and students. My Mission is Remission also supports the well-being of pediatric cancer patients through sponsoring activities and purchasing equipment. The foundation raises funds through direct solicitation, community fundraisers and sponsoring the Splash4Gold national swimming meet every September.
